Barbie and Jessie,the Bobcat!

very cute...
This is a lovely letter from my friend, Barbara in Bahamas, we would like to share their wonderful work with you!!!

Hi Junji,

Here are two pictures of myself with a very special bobcat named Jessie.  I've included Jessie's story for all to enjoy and here is a little bit about myself.

I am the "Animal Enrichment Coordinator" at the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter Florida.  (And personal friend to Junji)  BWS rescues over 3,000 wild animals and birds each year.  The goal is to make them better and then release them - some however can not.  Those that are not humanly put down are kept at BWS for education.  Barbie makes sure these animals are well taken care of and she makes certain they do not get bored with their captive lives.

Jessie's story - Jessie was brought to BWS after a terrible accident.  While one of the state lawn workers was out cutting the highway grass on his big riding lawn mower a bobcat dashed out in front of him.  The next moment several baby bobcats were sent out his machine.  He was horrified and quickly turned his mower off.  Unfortunately all but one of the bobcat babies was dead.  He raced the little one who was still alive to us at BWS and we named her Jessie. Because she was raised by humans she thinks she is a human so we are unable to release her.  However she is now a full grown bobcat that likes to bite and is very active.  Only 2 BWS persons are allowed in her cage and one of them is Barbie.  She is not biting out of aggression, she just wants to play, but her play is strong and includes biting.  Luckily Barbie knows how to spend time with her and Jessie becomes very loving with her.  But in the 2nd photo you can see - Jessie still wants to bite Barbie's knee. Barbie calls it "getting bobcat love!".

Keep checking with us for more stories from "Barbie's Wild World" as we continue to meet some of her very special animal friends.

we can keep the kids interested and as time goes on to also respect wildlife.

Thanks for this opportunity.
Barbie

Thank you, Barbie.
